About the Event
21 June 2021
Dear Parents,
CCF Annual Camp will be going ahead from Friday 2 July until the end of Monday 5 July. A coach will leave TWGGS each morning and return by (hopefully) 1930 each evening - very traffic dependent.
Could parents please be prompt in the mornings and get their cadets to school by 0630. We will need to check each cadet has evidence of a negative covid test on their phones before they can leave with the contingent. This must be no older than 24 hours. It would be best if they did this on the previous evening but without proof of this negative test, your child cannot board the coach. We will also check their kit for the day and ask about any recent injuries or changes to the health. At least 60 cadets are timetabled to travel each day.
While we are away on annual camp, as an exception to the usual arrangements, cadets will be allowed their phones but they need to make sure they are fully charged so they can pass on the timing messages when we are driving home.
Please note we are scheduled to be back at approximately 1930 (very traffic dependent) and the cadets will alight the transport on St Johns Road. You will be updated by your cadet when the coach is about one hour away and then again, with a 15 minute warning. Please be equally prompt to pick up your child as staff will not leave until the last person is collected and of course, this process will be repeated the next day. Staff are the first to arrive and the last to leave; we are very dependent on your consideration and cooperation with picking up children, promptly.
There is a kit list and details of what is going on each day on the TWGGS website - Twggsccf.co.uk - please visit and find more detail about what is expected for kit each day. Our first day is a range package. TWGGS CCF will provide the ear defenders, webbing and other parts of the rifle will be provided at camp. All cadets will be issued with a sunhat to use when in uniform. This will also involve the RN cadets as they will have separate activities with a RN officer for some part of the day but should be able to join in on everything else. The programme for the week is:
July 2 – Ranges
July 3 – Fieldcraft
July 4 – Survival
July 5 - Adventurous Training (in their own modest clothing with a change of clothing – NO Leggings)
If your cadet is short of any equipment, more issues of kit will be possible on Monday, during CCF time. Clothing for each day is also outlined but full CCF kit is required for every day other than the AT (Adventurous Training day). When they do AT they must wear modest civilian clothing and make sure they have something warm with them as well. The weather can be very fickle, of course. They will also be going into water so will need a change of clothing - again, it must be modest - shorts below the knee, NO LEGGINGS at all, long sleeved tops and shoes that can get wet. A one piece swimsuit underneath their light clothing would be a good idea.
Everything they take should fit into the issued backpack but your cadet may wish to take extra food in a shopping bag - lunch and water etc - if you think they might be extra hungry. We are not stopping at any shops going there or coming back and there is nowhere to purchase food while on camp. The cadets will fully clean the coach before being dismissed. While it is acceptable to eat on the coach, it is NOT acceptable to make a mess and expect someone else to clean it up.
Once again, please go to TWGGS CCF to get full details of the required kit list for each day. This has been sent to your cadet and is available on the TWGGS CCF google classroom. Hard copies are outside the Economics office and displayed on the CCF Board.
Finally, my apologies for the ever changing picture that has dogged the organisation of this year’s camp for months. I cannot even count how many times we have had to change transport, programmes, staffing and other arrangements over the last 12 months. There may still be some late notices given the resurgence of the Delta variant. We remain hopeful and will keep on being optimistic. Please extend your patience until we can get your cadet away with us and safely returned!
If you have any further questions about anything at all, please contact me by email economics@twggs.kent.sch.uk or at ccf@twggs.kent.sch.uk. When we are away it would be best to call Captain Patterson on
Yours sincerely
Major A Reynolds

Update 28/06/21
The annual camp for TWGGS CCF is going to carry on the dates, 2-5 July.
Those who have to self isolate are invited to join the coach on any day once your isolation ends - for the majority of the Year 10s, it will be Monday 5 July. You will doing an Adventure Training Day. You will be in MODEST clothing for the entire day. Be prepared to get wet (with a one piece swimming costume under light clothing with shoes you can get wet) and have a sensible change of clothing with you. Once again, please check the website for clarity.
For some of the Year 10s, you will be travelling with us on earlier days for camp - please note the requirements for each day (available on the website).
You will still need lots of food and drink for the entire day as we will be meeting in TWGGS at 0630.
If your isolation ends earlier (for those who were sent home earlier) then please come and enjoy your time at camp.
EVERY PERSON GOING TO CAMP MUST PROVIDE A NEGATIVE LFT ON THE MORNING OF TRAVEL.
NB - Army now require Cadet Questionaire to be completed for each cadet. See forms https://www.twggsccf.co.uk/forms
