About the Event

Expedition information:

Gold Duke Of Edinburgh qualifying for those who have completed their practice and a two day practice expedition for those who have not yet completed this, either because they weren't free on the practice weekends or because they were not yet 16. We  are planning on holding the practice Thu 24th – Sat 26th February 2022 and qualifying expedition Thu 24th – Mon 28th February 2022. Accommodation will be billet based due to current covid accommodations. Exact timings are yet tbc. See the letter on the DofE and forms pages for details and a permission slip. Please also read the following to ensure you are aware of everything else that must be completed to achieve your gold DofE:

Details on doing your Gold Duke of Edinburgh through cadets:

The Duke of Edinburgh Gold award is something that you can undertake very cheaply and effectively through CCF. The  requirements are -

• Volunteering section: 12 months

• Physical and Skills sections: One section for 12 months and the other section for 6 months

• Expedition section: 4 days/3 nights + practice expedition of minimum 2 nights

• Residential section: Undertake a shared activity in a residential setting away from home for 5 days and 4 nights.

You don’t have to have done Silver or Bronze to do Gold. If you didn’t do Silver, you must undertake a further 6 months in  either the Volunteering or the longer of the Physical or Skills sections. You enter details of what you’re doing and keep track of it  on www.edofe.org or on the app.

So, for volunteering, physical and skills you need to organise yourself but completing the MOI/CFIT along with teaching can be  your volunteering section, shooting can be a skill etc. Please contact Captain Naismith if you want to know what activities qualify here but  there will be details in your pack that you receive when you enrol. Residential would cover a CCAT, CLC, SCIC or an AT course of suitable length for which you can get details from Major Reynolds or Captain Patterson. For the practice expedition we can normally sign off Cambrian or Mill Skills (where the accommodation isn’t billet based and there is walking between stands). We are planning on holding a practice (Thu 24th – Sat 26th February 2022) and qualifying expedition (Thu 24th – Mon 28th February  2022) on the Isle of Wight NB your silver expedition can also currently qualify as gold practice. Current conditions allow accommodation to be billet based

.

Doing your Duke of Edinburgh gold through cadets means that a lot of the training required for the expedition will have already  been covered in the rotations and camps you attend. We can also keep the price low.

Estimated Costs

Registration and Packs = £37

Volunteering, Physical and Skills is something you organise and absorb the cost for if there is one. There are many options to do this through CCF

Practice expedition £30

Qualifying expedition £40

Residential Section = varies from course to course but it’s normally in the region of £40 . This can be CLC, SCIC or CTC activities  (speak to Capt Patterson) though CCF.

You need to be 16 to begin Gold so this is open to current Year 12s and 13s and any Year 11s not currently undertaking silver and who will be 16 in in time for the expedition. Enrolment and payment of the £37 is via Major Reynolds together with the  permission form available via the website.

If you have any queries about Gold DofE through CCF or this expedition please contact either Captain Naismith or Sgt Trueman
